Detox drinks are a powerful tool to add to your recipe arsenal. Why? Detox drinks help your body not only lose weight, but also rid the body of excess waste, boost metabolism, reset your digestive system, improve colon and liver function, and set the stage for healthier eating.
Could your body benefit from a detox? Chances are good that it could.
But while there are numerous benefits to a detox, often just the thought feels laden with work or a high price tag. But it doesn’t have to be. Of course you can buy detox drinks or programs but the problem is you don’t know what’s in it, and the price tag is usually high. The best part about making your own detox drink is you get to learn the ingredients that are naturally good and healing for your body. This information is power and every step, and every new healthy ingredient, leads you further into a healthy life.
If you’re in the mood for a little detox, this recipe makes a delicious shake. I like to make a double batch and then I freeze the rest into big cubes and throw one into my favorite vanilla mint protein shake for an added detox boost.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1.5 cups spinach or kale
2 stalks celery
1 small lemon, (cut the peel off and throw the whole thing in)
1 ripe banana (frozen, cut into chunks)
1 cup pineapple (fresh or frozen)
2 Tbsp. chia seeds
1/2 – 1 tsp spirulina powder
1 cup almond milk
1 cup water
Blend, serve and enjoy!
