Sometimes we must get lost to be found

get lost

Have you ever wondered if you had it all backwards?

I do a lot.

Just this week I took a field trip with my son’s class to a little farm. I got lost in the dreams of a much simpler life. A home in the country where good company consists of chickens, horses and barn cats.

And I don’t even like cats.

Maybe that tells you something about the state of my heart.

{Not the cat part}, but the draw to things I don’t even love, for rest from what I thought was so good.

Sometimes we get things backwards.

We think bigger is better when smaller is so much more sure.

We think busy seems important when rest is confidently secure.

We convince ourselves we know what we want and then we find out we don’t really know at all.

There are so many times we need to press in. To lean in to the tension and let it force us to grow.

There are also times we need to pull back.

To get lost.

I remember a time in my life I needed that. The chaos of life clouded my vision. I could barely tell the truth from a lie and I knew I needed rest.

Rest from all that I had, and all that I was doing, so I could find all that I was, and how to be still.

I needed to get lost in order to find what I was looking for. To find me. Hidden beneath all the layers of life and decisions and relationships and strain.

Sometimes you need to lose a lot to appreciate a little.

Sometimes you need to fail to succeed.

Sometimes you need to get lost in order to find what you’ve been looking for.

Today’s Challenge: Get lost. Put down the map, turn of the GPS, and go. Let your feet do the walking and let them lead you on an adventure. Go by head or go by heart. Just go. Find what you’ve been looking for by embracing its opposite.

This is so perfect!! Thank you. I’m really encouraged by the idea of “pressing in”. It’s definitely where the growth happens.
