How you can be brave

how you can be brave

I awake on the airplane at 30,000 feet. Wearily, I remove the ear plugs and sleep mask I had worn in the effort to secure as much rest on the red-eye flight as I could.

Still half drunk on dreams, I stretch and look out my window to meet the sun.

It’s a new day.

I breathe in the wonder and magic of meeting the sun high above the clouds. Seeing and knowing that the day begins well before the rays of it’s light ever hit the earth.

Each day, before I rise from my bed, somewhere the sun is shining. Dreams are stirring and God is moving.

Above the clouds I believe anything is possible.

I imagine as if He is inviting me to step out in faith and walk across that cloudy sea.

I close my eyes and dream what lies before me. What path will He prepare for me?

Because the truth is He is always preparing the way.

A way in the dark. A way when all roads have dead-ended and none seems possible.

At our weakest, He is forging strength. In our darkest, He is breaking light.

In surrender we find His uncommon grace.

The kind that says yes to every wrong road and every bad decision and every which way we could be deterred.

It’s when the seeking and striving and worshipping and dying end.

When we see.

When we see that He paints the sun in the sky every morning. For you.

For me.

For as surely as the sun rises, He will appear. Hosea 6:3.

He will prepare you to do what He has prepared for you from the beginning. Before the foundations of the earth were made and the seas were drawn, He set you apart to do good works.

Why do we fear?

Above the clouds anything seems possible.

But a moment passes as we descend through the cloud break and see the city lights. The neighboring streets. The cars and people going about their day.

Suddenly the dream seems too big. The task too hard. The gift too small.

Who am I to believe I can do any good thing?

But if God has assigned you, He will find you. And when He strips you, He will equip you.

What work is He doing in your heart right now? Has He assigned you? Is He in the process of finding you? Or is He stripping you? Equipping you?

Every season we find ourselves being lost and found. Broken and built. This tumultuous life is a constant process of forgetting and remembering who we are.

Whose we are.

A process of breaking ourselves from the things that hold us back. The things that keep us from our gifts.

What are you holding back from God?

Too often we compare our story or our passion with someone else’s or wish we could live it out or tell it in a different way. But your story is your best story. It’s the one you need to tell and the one we need to hear. It’s the one He is building in you by breaking you; the one He has assigned for you for such a time as this.

If your dream makes sense above the clouds and scares you to death on the ground, you’re on the right path. Be brave in obedience and God will fling wide the doors.

How can you be brave?

Hello. I connected with this post in a big way. I have recently had a lot of those “above the clouds anything seems possible” moments. Times when my heart is so excited and filled with hope that I think I can actually do the things I dream of! Then I start to doubt and wonder. I feel that God has stripped me in this season I am in. I know it is to build me up and I do believe, as you said, that He will equip me. It’s interesting how I can interpret things that happen around me- to me- as signs that I perhaps have no business dreaming what I do. That’s the doubt and negativity and I know they are forces I have to fight. I am in the process of thinking about a new project in which I would have to share my raw, close, painful moments with strangers. I feel drawn to do it. I feel that God has helped me to learn so much during this rocky season of my life. And part of what He is showing me is that this life on earth is way too short to not grab a hold of your dreams and fly. I know it won’t be easy but as you said, it is my story to tell. Hopefully in doing so, I can help amd encourage others. I admire your honesty and how you use it to help others. Thank you. And h hopefully we’ll get to meet up and share above the clouds one day!

I loved this, thank you for sharing it. I am from Cambridge, MN (pop. 8,000) Would you mind if I reprinted it in a newsletter that I assemble for a local MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) moms group of which I am a part? We meet twice a month and this year’s theme is “Be You, Bravely.” WE are group of non-denominational moms growing in the Lord and encouraging one another in mom-hood! thank you for your consideration! peace!
