What takes your breath away

We’re well on our way to savoring stillness this month! A 31-Day REVOLT Against Busy, the life our culture so sweetly lures us to live.

So today we’re really going to practice still.

So still that you might even hold your breath.

The handy thing about technology today is that most of us have an incredible camera in the palm of our little hands. And if you’re like me, it’s with you far more often than it should be.

But as such, we’re going to do something different with it today. Turn off that ringer and turn on the camera. Go outside in your back yard or in a favorite room in your house and celebrate some small things that make your heart feel photo shootbig.

I took this photo after leading my first women’s retreat a few weekends ago.

Little pieces of memory found on the beach in the sun and sand and a wild rose my middle son picked for me that had dried in my car.

I put them together on a piece of driftwood my oldest son rescued from a lake four years ago that I love.

It has moss growing on it and is the perfect backdrop for these treasured memories.

I captured this.

To you, it is nothing. But to me, it is everything.

So much meaning lies in this photo, I literally had to hold my breath to take it.

Let today still you enough to catch your breath.

Today’s Challenge: Get still. Capture a memory or a moment in time that makes your heart still. That God speaks to that tender place, you are so beautiful. Capture a moment and make it a memory. Small. And yet so very big.

Thank you for these daily reminders to just be in the moment and to knock out the busy! This is something that as a mom, I know is important to my family. All too often though, we get caught up in busy things that don’t mean much. Yesterday, after work, my boys and I went home, changed into comfy clothes, read books, put legos together and played games. It was the best day and before my oldest son went to bed last night, he reminded me that he thought so too. It made my heart smile! Here’s to many more days like this!

Amen Sarah! It reminds me of Winnie the Pooh, who said, “sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in our hearts.” xo
